Ski and Board Tuning
It is essential to the performance of skis and
snowboards that they are correctly maintained and cared for. Often
people are disappointed with snow conditions or their individual
performance when it’s not often their fault, the current tune
on their equipment is most likely incorrect for the conditions or
improperly tuned. Your equipment should be responsive and susceptible
to edge and direction changes, stable in all snow conditions, have
good edge grip and have good gliding characteristics. For total
ski and board performance it’s extremely important that you
have all your equipment properly tuned.

A stone finish delivers a far superior tune to
your ski or snowboard than a belt finish. With a stone ground base
you end up with a flat gliding surface and a fiber free structure.
Typically with a belt finish you have a concave base finish and
rounded edges. The advantages of this type of finish to your ski
or snowboard are
• Improved maneuverability
• Instant response to direction changes
• Better direction control
• Faster, smoother gliding
• Optimum edge grip for all slopes and snow conditions.
With the SBI stone finisher the tuner has a number
of different options to choose the right structure for your base.
This will provide you with the optimum stability and gliding properties
for the conditions.
For convex, concave and flat bases there are different
tuning methods you can use with the SBI to ensure your equipment
gets the best tune. For instance there are 3 feed rollers that can
be used together to feed the ski/board over the stone at any desired
pressure. 3 should be used for a flat ski base, 1 feed roller should
be used on the side of the ski/board for a convex base, with 2 passes
the left and right side can be ground separately, for concave ski/boards
only one feed wheel should be used in the centre.
